In an emergency, always call 911. VBVRS responds through the Virginia Beach 911 system, and you are never billed for our care.

We are neighbors
saving neighbors.

Life happens. And in Virginia Beach, volunteers trained in life-saving skills are all around you when it does.

For 70 years, you've been coming to our rescue so we can come to yours. Please continue supporting us.

How you can get involved

Three ways to be the person who shows up for your neighbors.

Who we are

An all-volunteer 501(c)(3), part of the Virginia Beach EMS system, run by your neighbors, for your neighbors.

Our mission

As members of the all-volunteer Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, we dedicate our efforts to saving lives, delivering quality emergency medical services, and providing community education and safety.

Our vision

A Virginia Beach where skilled help is always minutes away, no neighbor is ever billed for it, and answering the call remains a source of community pride for generations to come.

The volunteer squad

You would be joining about 175 neighbors.

Our members are teachers, students, retirees, and shift workers who decided to be the person who shows up. You do not need a medical background. You need to care, and to show up. We handle the rest, including your training, at no cost to you.

VBVRS Foundation, support the mission

Every dollar counts.

You can be the difference that lets us answer every cry for help.

We volunteer, but rescue is not free. Your gift buys the equipment, supplies, and training that let volunteers respond at no cost to the patient. Give one time or monthly, in honor or memory of someone, or to a campaign like the Fund Drive.

Learn to save a life.

Before the ambulance arrives, the person who can help is you. We teach Virginia Beach how to be ready, at no cost.

70% of sudden cardiac arrests happen at home. The life you save is most likely someone you love.
